Now that I have two kids of my own, I see why: it’s easy, nutritious and tastes delicious! Basically there are a few basic ingredients and the rest is optional. It’s super-easy to customize this soup to your tastes!

I’ve been in the market for a good vegetable soup recipe, and this one looks like it fits the bill. It’s got plenty of vegetables and even works in corn and potatoes, both of which I love in soups (though I don’t recall the last time I’ve ever had them both in one soup bowl). And maybe the best part of this recipe is that it manages to work in chorizo while still maintaining its “healthy” label. Talk about healthy and delicious.

“Chicken soup is synonymous with New York City,” Molly O’Neill wrote in the “New York Cookbook”. “An epicurean archeologist could piece together a social history of the city, simply by studying the permutations of its chicken soup.” From renowned chefs like Jean-Georges Vongerichten to the corner bodega owner, every cook has his own recipe for this magical elixir.

A journey through New Mexico isn’t complete until you answer the official state question-Red or Green? Of course, we’re talking chile here and that’s a serious subject to foodies in the Land of Enchantment.

With quick advances in the information age, we’re inundated with questions. Will interest rates stay low? Can Obama beat Hilary? How did UCLA lose to Memphis? Will Brett Farve stay retired? I’m getting exhausted with all the questions, but one that always piques my interest is the official state question in New Mexico– Red or Green?

Cut into large chunks. Mix together cumin, coriander, ground anise, chile powder, garlic, lemon juice and salt, blending to a smooth paste. Cook fish, a few pieces at a time, 2 to 3 minutes, until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.

Use only Clarified butter (dont think of using margarine) Dust the fillets lightly with flour. Meanwhile, heat some of the clarified butter in a frying pan until hot but not smoking. Saute the fish until lightly browned (some Mexican cooks fry fish until it is the approximate consistancy of our potato chips , but I feel this is taking authenticity a bit too far :-

Okra is slimey. Even those who detest okra in most forms relish these crunchy fried nuggets. Some folks don’t object to this characteristic and stewed okra with tomatoes and squash is popular with some Southerners.

Vegetables tend to take such things with equanimity and in this particular case it’s probably fair to say the implied insult, uhmm, slid right off. And, in truth, I would probably have ignored this slur to one of the South’s great vegetables myself if I hadn’t just purchased a bag of particularly fine looking specimens and anticipated enjoying them in their true culinary glory this evening.
