Amazon.com:
TV chef Tyler Florence brings a direct, regular-guy charm to cooking that is equally straightforward, simple and good. In Tyler’s Ultimate, he offers 100-plus recipes for just this kind of food—-”ultimate” versions of dishes like onion soup, crab cakes and spaghetti carbonara, as well as more innovative fare like Chicken Paillard with Fresh Fig Salad and Blue Cheese, Grilled Leg of Lamb with Lemon Chickpea Puree and Greens, and Coconut Shrimp with Basmati Rice, Apricots, and Lime. His desserts, all tempting, include the likes of Chocolate Banana Bread, and Almond Semifreddo with Spiced Honey Dried Fruit. Many of the dishes in this concise collection reflect a thoughtful winnowing of ingredients and technique to produce food that is not only delicious, but can be prepared on a regular basis. Some of Florence’s inventions—-like Watermelon Gazpacho with Chile and Feta Cheese, which is entirely accomplished in a blender-—are ingenious. Photo-illustrated throughout, “Ultimate” is for cooks who want their kitchen work to be as easy as possible, but who also require good cooking—-dishes that capture fully their flavor potential. –Arthur Boehm

Not impressed with this one by W. Mate
I bought this book based on my knowledge of Tyler Florence from the Food Network and so thought that his “ultimate” recipes must be pretty terrific. The first recipe I made was his Ultimate Ratatouille. What a disappointment. It was more involved and time-consuming than many other ratatouille recipes I’ve tried - even my own inventions - and Tyler’s was just plain bland. Needless to say, I wasn’t very motivated to try another recipe.

I realize that one recipe is not enough to judge a cookbook by, but ratatouille is one dish that’s pretty hard to mess up and I was expecting much more than I got.

In any case, the photos in the book are beautiful and there is one of each recipe.

Love the Show, Love the Book by qaz53074
If you’re a fan of the Food Network show “Tyler’s Ultimate”, this book is a must! I will readily admit that I am a major fan and these recipes are truly amazing.

A great gift for yourself or someone else. Simple recipes and loads of pictures!

Interesting ideas, fall short on execution by AvidReader
I bought this book as a gift for my husband, since he loves to watch Tyler’s Ultimate and everything always looks delicious. Unfortunately, we’ve been disappointed in the book so far. It appears that the book is poorly edited (recipes call for ingredients but never actually use them) and that not enough time was spent in the test kitchen (the Ultimate Spaghetti & Meatballs calls for 3 lbs of meat to make 10 very large meatballs but only calls for 1 egg to help bind all that meat together, for example). While we’ve enjoyed some of the recipes we’ve made, several have been very disappointing for the amount of work that goes into them. If you’re looking for a cookbook with lots of great recipes from one of the Food Network chefs, we’d highly recommend Bobby Flay’s Boy Meets Grill instead.
