Sixties parties are a wonderful way to bring people of all ages together for good times, food and a great party craft session. One iconic image that oldsters have from the 1960’s youth culture was wearing long strings of beads. Both genders wore these, along with bell bottoms, as evidence of their membership in the baby boom generation. This craft project provides a combination of party favor and party activity!

Buy bead jewelry making supplies. Cut necklace cords to lengths that hang to about the waist of an adult and others fit to a child’s size. Tie a knot at the bottom of each strand, place a long bead lengthwise and then tie another knot. This will hold beads as they are added.

Organize a number of different bowls with colorful beads. Disposable party themed paper bowls or plastic are best for this purpose. Use several kinds and colors of cheaper plastic beads. Center a few bowls of nicer more attractive beads. Divide the bags of cheaper beads into two bowls for each kind. Place one of each kind on opposite ends of the table.

Organize the table so that lots of people can flow past quickly. As they progress they first choose a pre-cut length of necklace cording. Then they could select a number of the cheaper beads and string them. As they reach the center of the table they could select one or two of the nicer beads or perhaps a peace symbol.

Then each participant would walk toward the second set of cheaper beads selecting and adding these to balance the strand of beads. At the end of the craft table they have a nicely designed necklace. Each party guest then ties the ends together to wear at the party and as a take home gift later.
